Hi,

First time poster/reader, has anyone travelled with JLM Travel to Gambia? They have just offered me the Kombo Beach or The Kairaba for £100pp cheaper than Monarch Holidays there is three of us travelling so we will save £300! – and it is using the same flights. The woman advised me everything is atol covered and that they have some exclusive deals on it. I have done a check and found there website and it was actually cheaper when I called them lol

Hi Paul, and welcome to VT. d:o)

Frankly that is amazing. I would have thought it would be the other way around. I have not used either of the, but I know of them. Monarch is more of a budget tour operator, and JLM is known for using really good properties. If they offer better deals than Monarch, I would definately take them up on it. Just make sure you read the fine print.

Why is there such a difference? Monarch is all over the world. JLM has a smaller scope to more selective areas. This may allow them access to better deals at the hotels, as they offer less but better choices.

As a life long tour director for expensive operators, I do have a fairly good idea how this works. I also did a lot of (group) price negotiations with various properties. I have stayed at the Kairaba, although a while ago. It is likely still the best, but I have been through the Kombo and it is/was pretty nice, so I would think that you would be fine at either.

Again, read the fine print as to what is actually included in both contracts. I it satisfactory, then go with JLM.
